I’m Elena Gandola, a licensed Lake Como guide born and living in Lenno. This site is my independent guide to Villa del Balbianello - I compare the tickets and boat tours so you book the right one for how you want to see the villa.
My background
I have walked the path along the Lavedo peninsula to Villa del Balbianello since I was a child - 20 minutes on a quiet morning, 25 when the summer path fills. I am a licensed Lake Como guide and I have worked seasons alongside the FAI staff at the villa. I measure a visit in minutes of walking and ferry timetables, and that is how this site is written.
Why I built this site
Because most people book the wrong Balbianello ticket. The €15 park ticket and every boat tour cover the gardens only; the rooms and Monzino’s expedition museum can only be seen on the guided visit. “VIP access” on the boat tours means docking at the villa’s pier, nothing more. Then there are the two closed days - every non-holiday Monday and Wednesday - and the timed slots that go days ahead on summer weekends. I watched visitors run into all three, season after season, so I wrote the garden vs villa page, the opening days calendar and the six-product comparison to put the answers in one place. What this site is, and is not
I am an independent guide. I am not the villa, not FAI - Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano, the Italian National Trust that has owned Balbianello since 1988 - and not a tour operator. For official matters such as weddings, FAI membership or school groups, go to FAI directly. When you are ready to book a ticket or tour, I send you to GetYourGuide, a licensed reseller, to complete the booking.

No. I’m an independent licensed guide from Lenno. The villa is owned and run by FAI, and official matters - weddings and private events, membership, school groups - go through FAI, not through me.
Can you book or change a ticket for me?
No - bookings run through GetYourGuide, and changes go through your booking confirmation there. What I can do is help you pick the right ticket before you book: start with the comparison or the reviews.
How do you decide what to recommend?
