Address: Via Guido Monzino 1, 22016 Tremezzina (CO). - 2026 season: open 14 February to 28 February on weekends only, then from 14 March daily except non-holiday Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:00 to 18:00; last park entry 17:00, last guided villa tour 16:00. November and December: 10:00 to 17:00 with select December dates. - Gate prices 2026: garden (park) entry 15 euro adult, 11 euro reduced, 42 euro family. The interiors can only be visited on a guided tour of about 45 minutes; villa-and-garden gate ticket 24 euro adult. FAI members enter the park free. - The villa interior is NOT included in garden-only tickets or in the boat 'VIP access' tours from Bellagio and Varenna - those dock at the villa pier and include the gardens only. - Access on foot is a roughly 1 km walk (20-25 minutes, hilly) from Lido di Lenno along the Lavedo peninsula, or by paid taxi-boat from the Lenno lakefront; public ferries (Navigazione Laghi) serve Lenno, and bus C10 runs from Como along the SS340. - The villa was built for Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini at the end of the 18th century around a former Franciscan monastery whose two bell towers still stand; in 1919 it passed to US General Butler Ames, in 1974 to Guido Monzino - who led the first Italian ascent of Everest in 1973 - and on Monzino's death in 1988 it was bequeathed to FAI. - Filming locations: Star Wars Episode II - Attack of the Clones (the Naboo lake-retreat scenes, 2002) and Casino Royale (the final convalescence scenes, 2006) both used the villa and its loggia; A Month by the Lake (1995) filmed here earlier. - Weddings and private events are hosted on days the villa is closed to the public - the Monday and Wednesday closures exist largely for them; enquiries go through FAI directly. ## Which ticket suits which visitor Garden-only entry (15 euro, about an hour) suits most first visits: the loggia, the terraces and the film locations are all outdoors. Add the guided interior visit if Monzino's expedition museum and the villa rooms interest you - it is the only way inside. Boat tours from Bellagio or Varenna replace the walk with a lake crossing and dock at the villa pier, but include the gardens only and run on strict return times. The interior requires the separate guided visit. - Villa del Balbianello is not free to enter on any regular public day, and it is not state-owned - it is a private non-profit FAI property.
